6:30PM Lecture
Rehab, Recycle, Renew
Throwing away buildings after one generation of use is an unsustainable de facto strategy of institutional and urban renewal. The love-hate cycle of our relationship with buildings needs enough time to play out so we can creatively repurpose and reimagine our urban and architectural heritage. In this lecture, architect Frederick Fisher will share his views on the importance of adaptive reuse to his practice through a review of past projects, the current success of the Annenberg Community Beach House and ideas for future sustainable projects he developed during his Rome Prize Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome. Fisher’s practice has specialized in art-related projects including museums, galleries, and schools for the past 27 years.
